Trip – The Holocaust Centre

Journey book

To support our learning about WW2, years 5 and 6 will be visiting The Holocaust Centre on Monday 18th May.

We require a small number of parent volunteers to accompany us. Please see your child’s class teacher if you are able to help us with this, if we do not have enough volunteers we will unfortunately not be able to travel.

The book you see above is available to buy on our visit; the shop will not be open for us but we are happy for you to bring £4 in a named envelope on Friday 15th May to purchase a copy of ‘Journeys’. The book tells the story of 30 child survivors of the Holocaust, it has been specially written for year 5 and 6 children and accompanies the visit.

As long as your money is at school by the Friday before we travel your book will be bought for you on the day of the visit and given to you on our return.

Hockey camp and workshop opportunities

We are delighted to announce that current GB and England Senior Men’s Hockey Manager Andy Halliday will be delivering at our junior hockey camp (23rd and 24th July 2015) and the hockey coaches workshop (23rd July 2015) at the Lindum Sports Club. Andy will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to pass onto the juniors and coaches, this is a fantastic opportunity for young hockey players and all teachers/coaches to come and learn from the current England manager. We look forward to working with Andy at the Lindum Sports Club before he takes England to the Euro Hockey Championships in August.

Andy’s hockey career As a player Andy played club hockey for St Albans HC he captained the club during the 1980’s and 1990’s, this was during a time when St Albans HC won eight national indoor titles and represented England in Europe. Andy represented England Under 21 indoors and outdoors and he was a member of the England and Great Britain training squad for several years in the eighties and won a silver medal in the European indoor Championships with England in 1991. In 1990 Andy was awarded the UK player of the year award, the first non-Olympian to win the award. As a coach/manager Andy first took up an International position In 2005 Andy took over managing the England Under 21 squad, In 2008, he was appointed as Head Coach for the England Indoor and in 2010 Andy was appointed as team manager for the England / Great Britain Senior group.

Amazing art

imageimage

Look at our amazing art!  We have been mixing colour to make these  cool pictures. We had lots of fun  making these still life paintings. We had to think about the shapes and shades to make them  realistic just like the real thing we had to use perspective some people found it really hard ; they used a birds eye view but they were not supposed to! We have got lots of washing up to do.
