Half term battle!

Your homework over half term is to take part in the Times Tables Rockstar Battle, which we have set up between the Year 5 classes.

You need to just log in as usual and play either in a festival against others or scroll down and play in Garage/Arena with questions set by us or the studio/festival for a variety of questions.  Anything you score will count towards our band total.

Get rocking!

Scholastic Book Fair Competition

The bookfair is back in school next week during Parent’s Evening.  It will be available for you to browse and purchase books in the hall over both evenings.  We raise hundreds of pounds in books for the school through your continued support in this.

We would like the children in Y5/6 to take a reading selfie to be in with a chance of winning a £5 book voucher to spend at the fair.  It can be as unusual or exciting as you wish.  You can print them off and bring them in or email them to your teacher so that we can select a winner next Wednesday. Our email addresses can be found below.  Get snapping!

Year 5 Homework

Please make sure you have practised your spellings and mental maths ready for our class test next Wednesday.  You do not have to print this homework at all – just copy the words into your homework book so you can practise them whenever you want to.  Practise your mental maths verbally too.  We have been so impressed with how many children scored 10/10 this week!

The spelling trophy had to be shared though because the average score across both classes was 7.7!  I wonder which class will be victorious next week?

Spellings

Mental Maths

We have revised our 9 x table this week.  Make sure you can recite them in any order.  Remember to use ‘product’ and ‘factor’ from last week but this week add in ‘squared’.

e.g. 2 factors of 18 are 9 and 2.  The product of 9 and 2 is 18.  9 squared is 81.

Comment on this post if you want to share how you’ve got on with it.

Y5 Homework

Here is this week’s homework.  Please practise your spellings by copying them out.  It’s better to practise them for 5 minutes every day than for a longer time on one day.

spacious

vicious

gracious

malicious

precious

conscious

delicious

suspicious

atrocious

ferocious

Our mental maths this week has focussed on the 8 times table.  We have started to introduce more vocabulary to help you with this.  Can you use the word ‘product’ and ‘factor’ within your answers?

e.g. 4 x 8 = 32.  The product of 4 and 8 is 32.  Two factors of 32 are 4 and 8.

Try to answer your multiplication questions within 5 seconds!

We will test spellings next Wednesday and use the mental maths in our class assessments over the whole week.
