Thank you to Amy Dixon for the following match report…

Match Report

It was a cold November afternoon and the greatest female footballers of our generation assembled at The Priory City of Lincoln. There were 7 teams in total, all in years 5 and 6.  The first game took place against Ellison Boulters. We needed a good game to settle our nerves and boy did we manage it. After a slow start we quickly regained our pace and eased to a 4 – 0 victory. Iona scored a hat-trick and Olivia scored 1. Our second game was against The Meadows and because of our previous victory, we had high hopes. However, after a tightly fought 12 minutes, the game finished 0 – 0.

Bishop King were our challengers in the third game. This too was a difficult match, but Iona came to our rescue and secured a 1 – 0 victory. The fourth game was against Parish and they hadn’t lost a game up to this point. The whistle was blown; Iona intercepted the ball, ran forward and blasted the ball into the back of the goal. It was the perfect start. One minute later and the ball was in the back of the goal again, this time it was by Lena. The game finally finished 3-0 with Iona getting a second goal. St Hugh’s were next and with team spirit so high, they were quickly defeated. Once again, our star scorer scored 2 goals within 1 minute of kick off. Iona then added a third to complete her second hat-trick of the tournament. The last game was against Branston. They were the only other team who hadn’t lost a game but we had the strongest defence and it showed. Courtney had to make 2 good saves and Caitlin and Amy worked hard to make sure the opponents wouldn’t score. After a well played match the score ended 2-0, with Iona scoring them both.

Special mentions also go to team players Izzy, Rachel, Kiri-Ann, Ellie who also played superbly and contributed to an outstanding Team All Saints victory. A tournament well played and well won.
